Hello and welcome to the photography portfolio and blog of Jamiri Photography! Photography has always been a passion of mine and after a few years away from using the camera, I have picked it up once again to focus on my favourite areas of photography – portraits.
I first got into photography as a teenager when my dad gave me my first digital compact camera. It was tiny enough to fit in the palm of your hand. A square, bright blue camera with only a shutter button, a simple zoom and viewfinder – no adjustment settings and it saved images as bitmaps! I still have copies of some of these early photos which I will share in a later post but it was this tiny camera which sparked my love of photography. I spent a lot of time taking photos of family and our pets before graduating onto better cameras and other subjects.
My interest in landscapes began on my first trip abroad in 2006 to our family's homeland: Cyprus. I had so much fun taking photos in such an inspiring place that I decided to study photography at college the following year. I spent two years studying photography at A Level and enjoyed it so much which really shone through in my work. At college I was placed in the top ten nationally two years running for my photography work and awarded the Dr Lettis Bequest for my Work in Art.
After college I went to university and for the first six months we were on rotation across three different disciplines: Graphic Design, Design for Publishing and Photography. When the time came to decide on one subject to focus on for the next three years, I very nearly chose photography but the courses emphasis on studio photography was the deciding factor for me. I love taking photos outside as opposed to in the studio so I opted to study Design for Publishing instead. It was an extremely useful experience and gave me a lot of in depth design skills and knowledge that I use across all aspects of my design and photography work even now but studying for a BA and MA meant that I had very little time to pick up the camera.
I've missed photography a lot since then and always hoped I could get back into it but my studies and then my work as a freelance graphic designer from 2012 onwards meant that I never got the chance. However, in early 2015 I got my third Sheltie puppy and decided now was the time to pick up the camera again to document the growth of this little bundle of fluff! Her name is Mia and not only is she very photogenic but she can be a bit of a show off too so there are plenty of photo opportunities when out walking with her and my other dog Carly!
With my love of photography well and truly reignited I thought it was time to set up my own photography portfolio. My main focuses are weddings, portraiture, pet portraiture, commercial as well as my landscape and nature photography. As well as being available for commissions and photoshoots, I intend to set up a section eventually where you will be able to buy prints of my work as well as calendars and other merchandise so watch this space!
