I can't believe how quickly this year has flown by and we're now halfway through October! Now that the main wedding season is over for the year, I thought it would be a perfect time to blog and take stock of where I'm at so far, where I've come from and where I'm off to next.
At the beginning of the year I went off on a weeklong training course to get some wedding images for my portfolio. It was a fantastic experience and I met some great people who I'm still in touch with, as well as establishing what I felt was a good foundation to start on with my wedding photography. Building from there I booked four weddings for over the summer (as well as taking on a wedding last minute for a friend who couldn't cover it). I also started second shooting with the lovely Jo of Summer Love Photography, of which I still have two more weddings second shooting with Jo coming up in November.
All in all, what can I say except for that it's been an incredibly experience! I've learnt so much as every wedding has been so very different but they've all been lovely and unique. I've met some fabulous people and had such fun days and now that I've got more time over the autumn and winter I plan to do some write ups about some of the amazing weddings so look out for those. What I noticed most of all is that I've not questioned what I'm doing once. I know I'm doing something I love and I'm good at and it feels like things are falling into place so I'm incredibly excited for what the future holds (more on that later!)
Late September I went to Cyprus and did some commercial and food photography which was a refreshing change and I really enjoyed it. The images are going to be used on the two company's new websites being designed by Chicsystems so I'm really looking forward to seeing how they use my images. I also got a chance to do some landscape photography which was great as it was what sparked my true love of photography in the first place. I'll be blogging more about that over the coming weeks too.
I attended my first wedding fair last week and have another coming up on 23rd October. It was a great experience as I got to get some feedback from couples as well as connect to them in a way that you can't do online so easily so I'm really looking forward to building on that with the next show.
So, now what? I'm so pleased with how everything has progressed over the past few months and can't believe how quickly everything has happened but it makes me very excited for what will happen over the next year for sure! I feel that my work is improving all the time and I'm overall feeling much more confident about it which is great. As for what happens next...
I'm continuing to look at ways to get my work out there and am looking into wedding shows that I may want to attend next year as well as other advertising opportunities. I will still be doing photoshoots but perhaps not quite so many over the winter as it gets too cold for most people to want to be outside! In the meantime, I've had my thinking cap on and I intend to spend some time over the winter preparing for a styled photoshoot (or maybe two) that I'd like to shoot in the Spring. I really, really would love to tell you more about it because it's super exciting but for now it's a massive secret! You'll just have to keep your eyes peeled if you want to hear more on that one... and believe me, you are going to want to!
